Health 101: Vegetables to Make You Glow
Go, Grow, and Glow. This is the oft-repeated health mantra during our elementary years. Vegetables are on the top of the list when it comes to making you glow, as it is the most effective in protecting you from various diseases and maintaining that healthy body. Here are some of these super vegetables.
Broccoli. Yes, it’s yucky, it doesn’t taste good, and you’d rather have lettuce than a broccoli stick. But think about this, the youngest broccoli stalks pack an amazing amount of vitamin C, beta carotene, folic acid, and calcium. It has a lot of good, but non-soluble fiber too, so be warned of taking in too much broccoli as it will produce a lot of gas.
Spinach. This green vegetable will aid you in delaying that bad eyesight as you age. The little, dark green leaves that make up the spinach are loaded with carotenoids that help prevent AMD, or age-related macular degeneration. Spinach also protects you from cancer, as it has high doses of vitamin A.
Tomato. The bright red bulbs are filled with a lot of lycopene and beta carotene which fight cancer. Studies have shown that there is a 40% decrease of prostate cancers, and cancers found in the esophagus, stomach, and the intestines when people regularly eat tomatoes. So, don’t skip that tomato sauce, or you might try pizza as often as you can, to delay the effects of free radicals on your digestive tract.
